HISTORY TIMELINE

Establishment

1975

Arab Wings was first established in 1975 as a subsidiary to Royal Jordanian Airlines to provide executive charter flights to VIP’s. The late King Hussein was a pilot himself and encouraged this project as part of his efforts to make Jordan an aviation center in the region. The Arab Wings market expanded so fast that all government officials, military officers and business men in the region reached out to Arab Wings to rent the Learjet for official flights instead of operating large and expensive government planes.

In 1978, Arab Wings began a medical evacuation program, whereby they began flying to both Arab and European destinations for medical repatriation and evacuation services. Not only did this raise the company’s profile, but honed its skills as well.

Privatization

2005

In March 2005, the ownership of Arab Wings was restructured to a private limited liability company and was fully sold to the Royal Jordanian Air Academy (RJAA).

The academy was established in 1966 and stands as the region’s leader in aviation training for pilots, technicians and dispatchers where they became the first and largest flight academy in the region.

In June 2005, Arab Wings was awarded an Air Operating Certificate (AOC); and it is during that time that they also re-launched their operation with a Cessna Citation XLS, Challenger 604 and a King Air B200.

Gulf Wings

2009

In 2009, Arab Wings took the decision to set up an independent company – Gulf Wings. This was done in order to meet growing demands in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region.

Gulf Wings was then awarded with the Air Operating Certificate (AOC) in December upon thorough inspection from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority.

Other than efficient ground handling services and a fleet of six aircrafts, Arab Wings signed an agreement with Bombardier in March 2011 to become an approved service centre in Jordan.

Iraq Gate

2013

In April 2013, Arab Wings signed an agreement with an Iraqi partner to set up an Air Operating Certificate (AOC) in Iraq under the name Iraq Gate Company. The company is fully managed by Arab Wings and its main aim is to operate domestic flights in Iraq to support local business travellers, oil and gas companies, as well as provide ground handling supervision at all Iraqi airports.

In 2016, the new Moroccan Private Aviation Academy (MAPA) was established by the Royal Jordanian Air Academy (RJAA), which was an effective and innovative joint investment in terms of financial and manpower expertise.

Exclusive Travel

2018

In March 2018, a new member was introduced to the International Wings Group (IWG), Exclusive Travel, a full-service travel agency that provides airline reservations, ticketing and much more.

IWG expanded its fleet to 18 aircrafts and continuously upgrades its avionic systems in order to meet safety requirements and improve the quality of service. Now, International Wings Group is recognized as a world-class leader in aviation products and services.
